Karliah sat on a bench in the arena, watching the pairs of dueling demigods strewn around. Her bronze longsword was sheathed at her side.
Only a moment before, she'd been dueling another camper. They had challenged her, thinking the new comer would be nothing but target practice.
Unfortunately for them, Karliah had a few years of fencing under her belt. In that case, she clearly had the advantage of surprise. Within the first few minutes, she'd disarmed her opponent more times than she could count on one hand.
He'd stormed away, cursing in Greek to Ares above that he wouldn't lose again. The other campers around the arena had started snickering quietly. Karliah had sat back down on the bench, feeling a bit bad for beating him. But she brushed it off. It wasn't exactly her fault he hadn't been expecting a challenge.
Now she sighed, looking down at her hands. Maybe she'd better leave. No need to humiliate anyone else.
